Events

The Social Committee, led by Mary Ann Emanuel, has been working through the winter to prepare a terrific schedule of social events throughout the upcoming summer season. Please mark your calendars for these events. Reminders and additional details will be posted closer to the individual event dates.

May 28th – Beach Cleanup was a great success!

The Green Hill community showed up in record numbers to participate in this year’s beach and neighborhood clean-up. The cloudy skies could not dampen the enthusiasm of the motivated team of volunteers who collected debris large and small. Thanks to everyone who showed up to keep our Green Hill clean! A special thanks to Mal O’Connor who kept us going with coffee and donuts, and to Pete Jackson for hauling away all the trash! See pictures from this event here.

June 4th – Season Kick-off Dinner enjoyed by all!

Green Hill neighbors gathered for an enjoyable dinner at Locanda Restaurant in Wakefield to kick off the 2022 summer season. It was a beautiful evening filled with fun and laughter as folks mingled with friends, old and new. A great time was had by all!

This season’s kick-off meeting was fun and informative! Among other topics, we discussed upcoming social events and the budget for the coming year. Also, the Visioning Team introduced its work to explore ideas for the future of Green Hill 5-10 years from now. Minutes to be posted soon.

July 3rd – Great turnout for Chalk Day!

It was a great sight to see so many children sharing their artistic talent with one another. Some of the drawings included a red, white, and blue tree, an ocean scene complete with fish, a blue dragon, and lots of fireworks! The morning wrapped up with a raffle drawing of 3 prizes won by Addie, Hayden, and Bowen. Thank you to all the kids who participated and the families who cheered them on. Check out photos of the event here to see even more masterpieces.

Special thanks to Dawn McCabe, Mary Ann Emmanuel, Massood Abolfazli and Tim O’Connor for helping to make this a fun and safe event for our Green Hill neighbors.

July 4th – 4th of July Parade a banner success!

It was a glorious day to celebrate our country’s independence! Classic cars and decorated vehicles, carts, bikes, people, and dogs were all part of the fun at this annual event. A great time was had by all, check out the pictures here.

July 10th & August 27th – Bocce Tournaments, Open Play

A good time was had by all at the first bocce tournment of the season! Sixteen teams competed for the coveted title of GHCA Bocce Champion. Congratulations to Dawn McCabe and Massood Abolfazli for the win!
The second tournament will be held on Saturday, August 27th (rain date August 28th) followed by the End of Season Potluck Picnic that same afternoon. Please be sure to sign up in advance for the bocce, as this is an organized event. Also, for newcomers as well as experienced players, drop in for some informal ‘Bocce and Banter’ at the recreation area every Sunday at 4 PM, weather permitting.

July 23rd – Porchfest

A record crowd of nearly 100 friends and neighbors gathered in the O’Connor’s backyard for a festive evening of lively music, snacks and drinks. Folks young and old enjoyed the entertainment, which was anchored once again by Rik and Wendi Bourne. We had many first-time performers, including Dave Calabrese, Andrew and Laura Heyman, and Andy Harrell. Returning to the open mic were Rik and Wendi Bourne, Mal and Bonnie O’Connor, and Elwood Roberts. With so much talent and interest, we’re already looking forward to Porchfest 2023!

August 5th – Movie Night

Thank you to all who joined us for Movie Night!
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial transported us all on a magical adventure under the stars. We shared all the feels – from laughing and crying along with the movie, to the simple joy of spending time with many of our Green Hill friends. It was an enjoyable and beautiful summer evening for all who attended!

August 20 – Annual Members Meeting

In addition to updates from a number of ongoing committees, the Annual Meeting will include a report back on the survey the Vision Team invited all members to respond to during July and a focus on the many ways GHCA members can get engaged, serve as officers and board members and become part of ongoing project teams. In addition, this is the meeting where new ideas and changes are voted on.

August 27th – Bocce Tournament and End of Season Picnic

We will host the annual End of Season Potluck Picnic at the GHCA recreation area again this year. It will be held on Saturday afternoon, August 27th, at the conclusion of the Bocce Tournament. The rain date is Sunday, August 28th. This event is always fun and a great way to celebrate the end of the summer season, sharing your favorite recipes with your Green Hill friends and neighbors. Maureen Koehl will coordinate; more organizational hands are needed. Location: The Recreation Area.

Please give Maureen a call (914-274-0875) to help with set-up and clean-up. It’s an easy way to get
involved.
