Saturday, August 29th – GHCA Annual Members Meeting from 10 am to 12 pm

This will be an important meeting, so please try to attend. We will be voting on a membership dues increase from $125 per year per household to either $175 or $200 per year. If you can’t make the meeting and would like to vote, please write to Mal O’Connor at moconnor@cfar.com to make him your proxy and specify which option you vote for.

Saturday, August 22nd – GH Pond Guided Paddle Tour from 9 am to 11 am
Sponsored by the Salt Pond Coalition and the GHCA Pond Committee, participants discovered the beauty and ecological importance of Green Hill Pond to our community. The tour was led by Art Ganz, President of the Salt Pond Coalition and a retired biologist.
Participants paddled to several notable ecological and historical areas of the pond while learning about its unique coastal ecosystem and ongoing conservation efforts.

Saturday, August 15th – Annual Season Picnic from 3:30 pm to 6 pm
The annual pot luck picnic signaled the culmination of another wonderful summer at Green Hill and offered a chance to spend time with friends and make new acquaintances, and even play some corn hole. Hearty thanks to the planning committee, Maureen Koehl, Don Geissler and Judy Geissler, as well as to all of the volunteers who helped with set up and clean up. Saturday, August 8th – Annual Bocce Tournament
Congratulations to Bill Keen and Harry Morse, our champions at this year’s GHCA Bocce Tournament held on Saturday, August 8th. After a very competitive final match, second place was awarded to the team of Don Geisler and Anna Kroesser.
Thank you to all who played, watched and helped out to make yet another successful Bocce Tournament at GHCA. We look forward to seeing you at next year’s tournament!!

Saturday, July 25th – Porchfest / Open Mic Session at 5 pm
Bonnie and Mal O’Connor hosted the seventh annual GHCA Porchfest in their backyard at 17 Border Avenue. Neighbors and friends brought their musical instruments and their voices, and joined Mal and Bonnie, friends of GH Rik and Wendi Bourne, for an “open mic” evening of live music. Wednesday, July 22 – Nitrogen and Understanding the Future of Green Hill Pond – Zoom Presentation from 6 pm to 7 pm

A Zoom presentation was hosted by Salt Pond Coalition’s Executive Director, Alicia Schaffner, and the Vision 2030 Pond Committee.
Why: Water quality is one of the most important long-term issues facing Green Hill Pond.
Topics covered:
- What nitrogen is and where it comes from
- How excess nitrogen affects pond health
- Why algae blooms, reduced water clarity, and eelgrass loss matter
- The impacts on shellfish, fish, and the overall ecosystem
- Current monitoring efforts and recent findings
- Projects underway to improve water quality
- Simple actions homeowners/residents can take to help protect the pond
Together, we can help preserve Green Hill Pond for future generations.
Thursday, July 9th – Food Truck Night from 4 pm to 8 pm
The Green Hill Civic Association hosted our 4th annual food truck night at Green Hill Park. Organized by Marcia Ryter, this year we enjoyed a new assortment of food trucks, featuring South County Barbecue, Farm to Sandwich, Newport Chowder and Lobster, and Luca’s Ice Cream. Sunday, July 5th – Sidewalk Chalk Day at 10 am
Organized by Linda O’Connor and Dawn McCabe, Chalk Day is an annual event for kids of all ages. Children and grandchildren joined the fun at the corner of Land and Sea and Carpenter Drive. There were drawings for Sidewalk Chalk Day prizes and a visit from the ice cream truck added to the fun.
Saturday, July 4th – 4th of July Parade at 11 am

Saturday, June 27th – GHCA Members Meeting – 10 am to 12 pm
Thanks to all the members who participated to stay abreast of Civic Association business and make their voices is heard. The meeting was held via Zoom, and covered a number of issues, including:

- Vision 2030 Updates (Mal O’Connor, Maria DiMauro, Dan Tanona, Chip Reilly, Maureen Morse)

Saturday, June 20th – 2026 Season Kickoff Dinner – 5 pm to 8 pm
We hosted our season kickoff dinner at the Haversham Tavern in Charlestown. We had a great turnout and a lot of fun. Thanks to all who participated, and many, many thanks to Steve and Linda Shaknaitis and their team members, Linda O’Connor, Maureen Morse, Joan Jackson and Marcia Ryter for doing such a great job setting it all up!
Saturday, May 23rd – Beach Cleanup 9:30 am
Pete Jackson, Joan Jackson and Suzanne Werth led a team of neighbors to clear trash from our beaches, as well as from the kayak and recreation areas. Thank you for keeping Green Hill beautiful!
