The GHCA Social Committee, a group of fifteen of your neighbors, has been working through the winter and spring to prepare a terrific schedule of social events throughout the upcoming 2026 summer season. We hope to see you at these fun activities this summer!


Wednesday, July 22 – Nitrogen and Understanding the Future of Green Hill Pond – Zoom Presentation from 6 pm to 7 pm

Please join us for a Zoom presentation by Salt Pond Coalition’s Executive Director, Alicia Schaffner, and the Vision 2030 Pond Committee.

Why: Water quality is one of the most important long-term issues facing Green Hill Pond.

Topics covered:

  • What nitrogen is and where it comes from
  • How excess nitrogen affects pond health
  • Why algae blooms, reduced water clarity, and eelgrass loss matter
  • The impacts on shellfish, fish, and the overall ecosystem
  • Current monitoring efforts and recent findings
  • Projects underway to improve water quality
  • Simple actions homeowners/residents can take to help protect the pond 

Together, we can help preserve Green Hill Pond for future generations.


Saturday, July 25th – Porchfest / Open Mic Session at 5 pm

Bonnie and Mal O’Connor will host the seventh annual GHCA Porchfest in their backyard at 17 Border Avenue. Bring your musical instruments and your voices, and join Mal and Bonnie, friends of GH Rik and Wendi Bourne, and your local or visiting friends, neighbors and kinfolks for an “open mic” evening of live music. Whatever your level of musical knowledge and experience, this is your stage, and the audience is friendly and appreciative! Bring your chairs, drinks and something to munch on for a fun couple of hours of music. Saturday, August 8thAnnual Bocce Tournament

This year’s tournament, held in the GHCA recreation area, will be led by Harry Morse and Maureen Morse. Seasoned bocce players and novices are welcome to compete. The rain date for this popular event is Sunday, August 9th. We will provide additional information closer to the tournament date for you to sign up as an individual (you will then be matched up with another individual) or with a partner for this lively competition.


Saturday, August 15thAnnual Season Picnic at 3:30 pm

This annual potluck picnic, held at the GHCA recreation area and organized by co-hosts Maureen Koehl, Don Geissler, and Judy Geissler, is a great way to celebrate the summer season, sharing your favorite recipes and culinary prowess with Green Hill friends and neighbors. More information will follow closer to the date.


Saturday, August 29thGHCA Annual Members Meeting from 10 am to 12 pm

The agenda for this year’s Annual Meeting will be assembled during the summer. The agenda will be sent to GHCA members a week prior to the meeting. During the meeting the Nominating Committee will outline steps that those interested can take if interested in serving as an officer or a board member. The vote to fill those positions will be held at the Annual Meeting in August of 2027.


Past Events

Thursday, July 9th – Food Truck Night from 4 pm to 8 pm 

The Green Hill Civic Association hosted our 4th annual food truck night at Green Hill Park. Organized by Marcia Ryter, this year we enjoyed a new assortment of food trucks, featuring South County Barbecue, Farm to Sandwich, Newport Chowder and Lobster, and Luca’s Ice Cream.  We had a great turn out and look forward to future food truck nights! Sunday, July 5thSidewalk Chalk Day at 10 am

Organized by Linda O’Connor and Dawn McCabe, Chalk Day is an annual event for kids of all ages.  Children and grandchildren joined the fun at the corner of Land and Sea and Carpenter Drive. There were drawings for Sidewalk Chalk Day prizes and a visit from the ice cream truck added to the fun.


Saturday, July 4th – 4th of July Parade at 11 am

Led by our emcees, Tim and Linda O’Connor, this year’s parade celebrated our nation’s 250th birthday.  See the Green Hill Blog for a recap and photos of this signature Green Hill event!


Saturday, June 27th – GHCA Members Meeting – 10 am to 12 pm

Thanks to all the members who participated to stay abreast of Civic Association business and make their voices is heard. The meeting was held via Zoom, and covered a number of issues, including:

  • 2026 Budget (Steve Shaknaitis)
  • 2026 Social Events (Mary Ann Emanuel)
  • Vision 2030 Updates (Mal O’Connor, Maria DiMauro, Dan Tanona, Chip Reilly, Maureen Morse)
  • Nominations for 2027 Board and Officers

Saturday, June 20th – 2026 Season Kickoff Dinner – 5 pm to 8 pm

We hosted our season kickoff dinner at the Haversham Tavern in Charlestown. We had a great turnout and a lot of fun. Thanks to all who participated, and many, many thanks to Steve and Linda Shaknaitis and their team members, Linda O’Connor, Maureen Morse, Joan Jackson and Marcia Ryter for doing such a great job setting it all up!


Saturday, May 23rd – Beach Cleanup 9:30 am

Pete Jackson, Joan Jackson and Suzanne Werth led a team of neighbors to clear trash from our beaches, as well as from the kayak and recreation areas. Thank you for keeping Green Hill beautiful!


Saturday, May 23rd – Kayak Stickers 10 am – 12 pm

Thanks to all who picked up their stickers despite the lousy weather.  If you were not able to make it and need a sticker, please contact Chris or Lee Fontaine, who are distributing stickers this year.
