The Recreation Committee addressed several important issues in 2025 based on the Vision 2030 Survey. One of its primary focuses was promoting safe, responsible, and respectful use of GHCA recreational facilities, including the kayak launch area and recreation grounds. This included encouraging members to remain mindful of safety, liability considerations, and the interests of neighboring property owners.

The Storage Shed Issue: The GHCA storage shed was identified as an area needing improvement. The existing shed lacks sufficient storage capacity, and users must cross the street to access shared kayak paddles and life jackets. This arrangement creates both an inconvenience and a potential safety concern, particularly during periods of high recreational activity. Improving the storage facility would enhance accessibility, organization, and overall safety for members using the recreation area.

Pond Water Quality Issue: As recreational use of Green Hill Pond continues to grow, GHCA members expressed a desire for enhanced monitoring and management of pond water quality status. The Recreation Team recognized the importance of providing members with timely and relevant information about pond conditions to help ensure a safe and healthy environment for all users. Working in coordination with the Pond Committee, the team looks for efforts to increase awareness of water quality issues and the impact on recreational activities. While progress is being made, reducing pollution and improving the overall health of the Pond will require sustained, long-term commitment and coordinated action over the coming year

Boat Launch Issue: Residents reported difficulties launching kayaks from the pond beach, particularly during periods of low water levels or challenging shoreline conditions. These concerns, combined with ongoing water quality issues, led to increased interest in improving access to the Pond. As a result, members asked to explore the potential installation of a dock at the kayak launch area. This would enhance safety, accessibility, and ease of use for kayakers and other non-motorized watercraft users. Any future improvements would need to balance member needs, environmental considerations, permitting requirements, and overall community support.
